Last week I was going to blog about a girl, but the dumbness of a computer prevented me from trying a third time. I’ll try to get you up to speed here. There I was: leaving my Monday night dance class. I say to this girl, “you allright? you don’t look like you’re having a good day.” and she’s all, “i told you that my boyfriend cheated on me, right?” and i’m all like, “no, i can’t say you’ve mentioned that.” and she’s all, “yeah, twice. in one weekend.” so i can see she is going to take full advantage of this situation and tell me all about it, which is fine with me.
let me digress to discuss this conversation style. it is peculiar, but utilized by several people i know. with these people, they’ll say something of massive importance in passing and then go “oh, i didn’t tell you that?” as though they forgot to mention your shoelace was untied.
I’m sitting there listening to this story, and soon i get all problems in her life. soon i know about this guy in our class that used to love her, and now hates her because she wouldn’t get with him, but still says he loves her, but it’s still too wierd because their respective (single) parents were dating for a while and so now he calls her a whore, etc. because he says she’s broken his heart. and she’s started smoking again which is bad. and do i smoke? no? that’s good- never start smoking- it’s a nasty habit that’s, like, SO BAD for you and her parents always ask about her smoking but she’s telling them no because she’s planning on quitting before she goes back home, and her little sister still knows she hasn’t quit. and this thing with her boyfriend is really bugging her. they were going to try to work through it but then she realized that she deserved better. but she’s still depressed and has been drinking way too often but, hey, that’s better than cutting like she used to.
and so the conversation continued, with me finding out all the juicy bits of her life in that sideways fashion. she just starts talking about ‘cutting herself’ as though we’ve chatted about it several times over.
at some point she just gets out her phone and says, “so what’s your number?” which i provided and then, as i predicted, says “and what was your name again?”
of course she never called me. but i saw her again this week and she’s still emotional but didn’t really interact with me beyond what she did in the past, which is pretty much just to dance with me. so i guess i’m sharing all of this because the whole thing is just wierd.
